"Cake" is one man portraying 26 characters and covering nearly 50 years of history. This is fierce storytelling that blends hilarity with brutal honesty to create an experiential show that is as much an event as it is a performance. All while baking a cake, shared with the audience, along with the recipe. Cake: a Story Piece, is Edwards's second installment in a performance art trilogy and is part cooking show, part memoir, and in the tradition of spirited Theatre, part religious ritual. Edwards takes seemingly incongruent subjects and mixes them with personal experiences to create the dramatic equivalent of a classic birthday confection: balancing, sweet, and salty elements and a few dashes of bitter.
